We’re back after lunch learning how to build, scale and grow at Momentum Summit. This afternoon’s session was chaired by Lorcan Colclough of Mazars.
Tom Gannon & Niall McGrath, Co-Founders, Fulfil Nutrition
Niall and Tom both had a background in marketing. In 2014/15 they noticed that there was a big consumer trend in healthy living and eating.
Consumers may want something healthy but they will pay for taste. They kept this is mind when making their products.
Their blue chip package that they are bringing to suppliers is what the suppliers need to see, they don’t want to see power points.

Quincey Fennelly, CEO, Wicklow Wolf Brewing Company
First commercial hop farm in Ireland in over 20 years. O’Brien’s number one selling Irish branded beer. They have also ensured that their beers are in places in which their target customers will see it.
Quincey believes you have to be real about who you are and what you are doing. You’ll never catch Quincey in a suit and tie – he hates them, as they’re just not him.
When launching the most important thing for them was being local. Quincey says ‘If you can’t master where you’re from, how can you master anywhere else?’ They also believe in stimulating people’s imagination in whatever ways they can.
According to Quincey, the most important things when starting a business are:
- To know the industry you are getting into inside out.
- Start small, but not too small.
- Start local.
- Build your core team around you. Build to your weaknesses.
- Lay down the foundations for your brand and stick to your principles.

Leonora O’Brien, Founder & CEO, Pharmapod
In order to build the company they had to face the problem, find the solution, and see was their scalability, opportunity and a competitive advantage.
Medical error is the 3rd leading cause of death in the US alone. While Leonora was working as a pharmacist she noticed that there was no platform where medical professions could share and learn from medical error. Pharmapod allows this information to be shared and stop future errors happening.
Over 5,500 users globally. Very quickly they are getting traction in different countries. They have a formula for expanding into each country.
Leonora’s tips:
- Explore all options
- Manage up as well as down
- Use your gut instinct
- Persistence is key
- Believe in yourself!
