‘In Search of Lost Time: Swann’s Way: A Graphic Novel‘ by Stéphane Heuet and Arthur Goldhammer.
This is a graphic adaptation, by French illustrator Stéphane Heuet, of ‘In Search of Lost Time’ by Marcel Proust. Translated from French by Arthur Goldhammer, the novel acts as the perfect introduction to Proust’s masterpiece. It also acts as a companion to the original novel.
In this novel, the narrator Marcel, an aspiring writer, recalls his childhood and memories about his family’s country home in the town of Combray.
Here, Heuet uses Proust’s own famously rich sentences and observations to portray Combray. The work and language of Proust act as blueprints for Heuet’s illustrations.
It is clear from looking at this beautiful novel that Heuet is a lover of Proust and Goldhammer stating that in their work they “tried to preserve the ‘flavour’ of Proust.”
