Creativity is key.
Regardless of which industry you work in, having the creative know how to adapt to any situation or come up with a creative solution to a problem is an extremely valuable tool to have. Not only can it make your work life easier, but employers will have no choice but view you with a favourable eye. You are now an asset to your company. You’re the creative genius who helped solve that troublesome issue we had last week!
For some, that creative flair just comes naturally. For others, all they need is a push in the right direction. Yes, creativity is a skill that can be learned, all you need is a good starting point.
We here at All Good Tales believe that great storytelling can lead to better business. So take note of some of our top tips on how to boost your creative capabilities while at work.
Find your ‘creative time’ of the day
Do you feel more creative in the mornings? After work? Or maybe it’s at 3AM when you can’t sleep?
By identifying the times in which you feel the most creative, you can plan the tasks in which you need that particular aspect for that time slot. Take yourself away from your desk during that time and get into your creative zone wherever that is. Go for a walk or maybe visit somewhere new. You can get plenty of inspiration from new environments.
Eliminate unnecessary distractions
Do you bring your phone to bed? Are unable to open a computer without having to log-in to Facebook? Well it’s time you learned to stop…right now!
We go through our lives addled due to distractions in our daily lives. How do you expect to come up with brilliant ideas if your phone continues to ‘ping’ every five minutes? Learn to take yourself out of the distraction zone during your creative time slot and let your mind run free without thinking about what’s going on in the world.
Shift your perspectives
This one is for industry professionals. Finding yourself faced with a difficult problem to solve can be commonplace, but the way in which you approach it can be completely unique.
Try to put yourself in the shoes of somebody else who is affected by this problem. How would they go about solving this? Could they hold the key to the most innovative solution on the planet? Or would do as you do?
Dive head first into a creative lifestyle
If learning to be creative is one of your top priorities for this year, then you’re going to have to put time in outside of office hours.
In your spare time, try swapping the telly for theatre tickets or lose yourself in museum every Monday. Embrace a more creative lifestyle in order to obtain a more creative mindset.
Never stop asking questions!
People often have issues asking questions as they feel like they’re annoying the person they’re asking. Unfortunately we’re going to ask that you continue being annoying.
Asking questions wherever possible means that you’ll obtain more information than those who only ask for the basics. By learning every intricate detail of your subject matter, it will become easier for you to be creative when working on it.
For example, if you are a marketer and you have been asked to make up a marketing strategy for a brand new product, wouldn’t it be best if you knew the ins and outs during the product before drafting said strategy? Pick the brains of the developers until you know where every single piece of it came from. Then, you will have more than enough information to go off of.
