We’ve put together three tips for how to engage your audience on social media with brand storytelling.
Show your human side
People connect with people. In order to connect with your audience through social media you need to let them know there is a person behind it and this person has stories to tell.
When you’re running the social media accounts for you company it can often be hard to inject personality and tell a story. You are unsure of how far to go and always cautious to make sure you’re speaking in the tone of the brand, not your own.
Three easy ways to do this are to share:
- what you’re doing.
- what you have learned.
- how it looks like behind the scenes.
Speaking to your audience through social media will enhance your brand storytelling skills and will help your audience feel engaged with your brand.
Tell a story in your updates
When writing our social media updates it’s easy for us to get lazy. In this day and age, a simple “read our blog post” tweet or Facebook post isn’t going to cut it. Your social media updates need a narrative.
So, tell a story.
While we are restricted by the 280 character limit on Twitter, we don’t have such problems on Facebook, LinkedIn and Instagram.
Introduce stories into your updates here by turning your statuses updates into miniature blog posts. Tell a story using a beginning, middle and end. Explain why you are making the update and what caused it.
Sharing a story on social will be more effective in engaging your audience than any update post could ever be.
Use your audience
User-generated content is a brilliant way to tell your brand story in an exciting and engaging way. It’s so perfect for social media.
Share your user stories on social, share testimonials in short quote snippets or even retweet and share their updates.
You can also easily create a hashtag, related to your brand, that your audience can engage with. Make the hashtag identifiable and easy to remember. Once you do this watch the engagement flood in.
You can make your story come alive on social with a few simple steps.
