We have two courses taking place in October, Storytelling for Business and Avoid death by Powerpoint.

 

It doesn’t matter if you’re delivering a speech, announcing new jobs, seeking investors, or launching a new product or service – telling a story is always the best way to connect with your audience.

Our Storytelling for Business course is back on October 10th, due to popular demand.

We will take you on a journey, far away from dull press releases, technical articles and boring reports and drive you towards engaging stories that resonate with your audience.

We will help you to identify your ‘Magic Slice’ of content – that place where the world wants to hear what you have to say. We will help you identify your audience through empowering exercises.

We will also go into the science behind great stories, the structure to succeed and the elements of every engaging tale.

Using our experience from working with some of Ireland’s top brands, we will help you to hone, craft and create your story. At the end of the day, you will be leaving the course with an understanding of your audience, a notebook full of content topics and your future stories mapped out.

  • Audience –Identifying, building and nurturing your customers and clients
  • The ‘Magic Slice’ – Shaping the stories you want to tell, and your audience wants to hear

3 Brilliant Brands Telling Stories – A Case Study

Stories are powerful and hold the power to connect people. A brand story is a piece of narrative that encompasses the facts and feelings created by your brand.

 

Now, thanks to smartphones and the internet, people are more contactable than ever before. But customers demand more than just a guarantee that your brand or business is the best. They need to be shown, not told. This all comes down to creating a relationship.

 

Why are we seeing more and more businesses focusing on their story?

Simply put, a strong brand story possesses the ability conjure an emotional connection with your audience. It is through this connection then that you can begin to build a relationship with your audience.

 

A strong brand story establishes what your brand is all about – its vision, core values, and mission. While also offering your audience much more than just a product or service, but an experience that can take them away from the everyday.

Dove

 

Ahead of the curve since 2006, Dove knows the importance of storytelling. Their first video released took a female model and photo shopped her beyond recognition for a spread in a glossy magazine.

 

Sometime later in another campaign Dove had females describing themselves to a forensic artist. Each woman described themselves much harsher and less attractive than they really were. The video was shared more than 3.1 million times during the viral campaign. To date, with view count that keeps on growing, the video has been watched more than 67million times. The emotion, personal feel, and power of the story it tells makes it a compelling piece and hugely shareable.

 

 

 

Soulcycle

 

SoulCycle is 45 minutes of not just pedaling, but also handlebar push-ups, light weight-lifting, and a message of spiritual enlightenment set to a mix of the latest earworms. SoulCycle has a power, through their story to compel people to pay close to the price equivalent of a monthly membership at your typical gym, for one 45-minute class.

 

SoulCycle started with a story: two busy, ambitious women couldn’t find a cardio routine that “made their hearts sing” in New York City. So they decided they should start their own indoor cycling studio, emphasizing a full-body workout and spiritual component. They rented a 72nd street space from Craigslist, folded their own towels, and passed out flyers on the street. They knew every rider who came through their doors.

 

Today, SoulCycle has 17 studios around New York and LA. Their blog and social media channels tell the stories of both instructors and riders and further deepens the sense of community amongst them.

 

 

 

 

GoPro

 

 

 

GoPro has allowed us to see the world from new sights, heights and angles like never before. But it was in 2014 that they saw the power that an emotional brand story can hold.

 

A firefighter saves a kitten from a smoke-filled home. The whole story just happens to be recorded on the GoPro attached to his helmet. They took this emotional and capturing video of a firefighter, Cory Kalanick resuscitating a small kitten back to life. The video went viral and over the years has gained them millions of views online.

 

GoPro didn’t have to list out any features, or really even show the product. They just simply showed what their camera can catch and just how people, such as Cory can be hero’s, like their hero branded range.

Brand Story Hero – Charity: Water

Charity: Water is a not for profit organisation which helps to provide safe and clean drinking water to people in developing countries.

 

Founded in 2006, by a club promoter named Scott Harrison. Over the past 11 years Charity: Water has helped to fund over 19,000 projects in 24 countries, benefiting over 6.1 million people.

Their mission is simple. They want to bring clean and safe drinking water to people in developing nations.

Lesson #1 They create an emotional connection

Charity: Water take something so simple, and something that we all take for granted and they heighten our emotions. Their story holds the ability to make you think just how lucky we are to have clean and safe in our lives. They use real life stories, real life people and their struggles of having to walk for hours to collect contaminated water and children and babies drinking it. They tell of the horror stories of sick individuals and death as a result of contamination.

Charity: Water touches the heart of their supporters. They tie you into their story – and may even cause a few tears.

Lesson #2 A simple brand book

Charity: Water love their brand and as a result, they ask people to treat it with care. They know that a strong brand will set them apart from other and it will amplify their message to get it further.

For guidelines on everything from logos to language, they have developed a brand book. They say how they love the simplicity and that through their tone and language they make their message accessible to all.

Lesson #3 They make us care

 

Similar to creating an emotional connection, Charity: Water makes us care about their cause.

Charity: Water make it simple – they state clearly why we should care. Clean drinking water is a basic need when it comes to life. In their 2016, 10-year anniversary video they explain how dirty water is responsible for more deaths in the world than all forms of violence. It’s a crisis, and over 633 million people have no access to clean drinking water – that’s more than twice the population than the United States.

Lesson #4 They are a superhero, but they show the power of people is much greater

They may be organising the development of clean water to millions of people, but Charity: Water know they can’t do it all on their own. They celebrate their supporters by sharing their unique and individual stories of how they became involved and the money they have raised through their blog and social channels.

From kids selling lemonade to people donating their birthdays rather than receiving gifts, Charity: Water celebrates these individuals regardless whether they donate $5 or $5,000. Each supporter is valued equally.

A good brand story, illustrates their voice, conveys they stand for and enforces why it matters to the lives of the audience that has its own stories. Charity: Water does this and more.
